Basement

The basement is a popular location for the laundry machines because it is out of the way of the rest of the house and is usually where the other utilities are, like the boiler, furnace, and air conditioner. Unless you spend a lot of time in the basement, there won’t be much risk of the machine noise bothering you. The only downside is that you might have to travel down two flights of stairs to transport your laundry.

Mudroom

A mudroom could be a very utilitarian foyer or another utilitarian entrance to your home, such as from the garage. It is usually where everyone can hang up their coats, store their bags, and line up their dirty shoes. It can be the perfect place to also house a laundry room. 

Kitchen

Another popular location for a laundry room is off of the kitchen. While you could have a walk-in pantry, you could also have a walk-in laundry room. The kitchen is already a very utilitarian space, despite being an entertaining spot, too. For a minimalistic design, you could install a washer/dryer combo unit under the kitchen countertop.

Bathroom

Placing your washer and dryer in a bathroom is an especially interesting idea if you only have one main bathroom. Otherwise, it could be inconvenient for everyone else to do their laundry. 

Second Floor Hallway Closet

Having a laundry room located on the same floor as the bedrooms, the second floor, can be highly convenient. This option has its own pros and cons, such as convenience vs. plumbing concerns.
