Returning home from school should be a breeze. The right home design can help!

Back-to-school season might start in August or September, but it is never a bad time to incorporate new back-to-school home design ideas for a streamlined routine. Homes can get cluttered and messy within an hour. What can you do to make it an organized, functional place for your family with school-aged children? At Ameri-Star Homes, we have a few ideas!

A Place for Backpacks and Gear

When the kids get home from school, it’s nice to have a place to put backpacks, shoes, and other gear without cluttering the home or blocking pathways. A mudroom or a similar entryway is ideal. This entryway could also be near your laundry machines and powder room.

Easy-to-Clean Floors

Carpets are starting to come back into style, but there is something to be said for primary home entrances with easy-to-clean floors. Luxury vinyl plank or ceramic tile are two popular flooring options to consider. They will make your home cleaner and smell better.

A Comfortable Kitchen

Children are often hungry for a snack when they get home from school. Placing the refrigerator at the edge of a kitchen is a great way to give them easy access to snacks and drinks while you are cooking dinner. Meanwhile, kitchen seating makes kitchens more comfortable for gathering after a long day.

A Designated Homework Zone

Where can your kids do their homework? The kitchen island or dining table works well enough, but if it is in close quarters with loud, busy areas, it can be harder to concentrate. An alcove, a nook, a bonus room, or even a finished basement could be the perfect place to focus.

A Communication Board

Busy schedules could mean there’s a higher risk of miscommunications or losing touch. Your refrigerator could be a great place to keep track of schedules and write notes, but you could also take it a step further with a broad communication board. It could be as simple as a cork bulletin board or something more built-in, like a chalkboard wall.

Places to Play

Schools nurture children to know, learn, and think well, but children also need to play. Don’t forget to maintain all the entertainment spaces your kids need to thrive
